One of the botanical ingredients used in this months subscription wax melt box is dandelion.
What!....the weed, I hear you cry,
no the amazing botanical herb that has wonderful qualities
Let me tell you more.........
Sunshine yellow dandelions (which you can see in my garden photos) are the type of yellow flower that a child would choose because “it’s like smiling sun in a crayon sky”.
From the French meaning ‘Lions Tooth’ (dent de lion) or (dens leonis) this resilient flower has become known as a weed but in actual fact you can eat the leaves in salads, make root extract and coffee from its two year old roots and make cordial or wine from its flowers.
The floral meaning in folklore for this sunny beauty is that of pure love and faithfulness. Quite a departure from the little weeds of my childhood that we called “wet the beds”. Although there is something in this nickname as they are a diuretic.
As with many of natures botanical herbs, life lessons can be learnt from these cheerful mini sunshines.
One of the most resilient of plants, they can be stood upon and immediately bounce back upright, forgiving the tootsie stomper of their squashing cruelty. They open their flowers when in direct sunlight sharing their beauty and honesty to make us smile. Then when they have had their day one final gift, turning into a magical puffball to offer wishes to those who believe.
I’ve selected quite a few of these golden headed beauties from our garden and air dried them ready to mix with sweet tangerine and fennel essential oils and orange moss rose petals. These components have been combined to make Bettyrose Creations May subscription wax melts, that have ingredient properties offering emotional wellbeing while most importantly smelling amazing!
So there you go, dandelions who knew?
