We are now fully into the wonderful season of autumn.
A time of year that I truly love. With its falling amber leaves, shiny burnished conkers and warming hot chocolates, this wonderful time of year is an opportunity to re-read a well loved book, bake a favourite apple recipe or listen to some autumnal inspired music. For me, I particularly love the poem entitled
‘To Autumn’ by John Keates. The first few lines read:
“Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;”
These lines really conjure up the essence of autumn and it is this poem that has inspired our first blend entitled Mellow Fruitfulness.
My second subscription box blend, encapsulates autumn/winter fires and their hypnotic embers. Fire appears in a number of folktales and is regularly associated with the ‘Hearth’ of the home and Women.
Such identification can be found in stories of Hestia the Greek Goddess or Brighid the Hearth Goddess of Ireland (who is celebrated in both Christianity and Pagan religions).
To reflect upon the comforting and warming qualities fire can bring at this time of year, I have created a blend to celebrate the power of this element within our world during this season. Using essential oils that have spicy, warming and sensual properties. Whatever your pleasures of autumn I hope these essential oil melts will accompany you and help to settle you into this very special season.
So let me tell you more about this months aroma box and its essential oils.
Ingredients for Mellow Fruitfulness:
Essential Oils of Bergamot, Orange, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus & Tangerine for a hot throw with biodegradable soya wax and home grown bergamot leaves which are seeped into the melts for a cold throw infusion.
Using the top sweet fruity notes of orange, bergamot & tangerine gives these melts a beautiful uplifting initial aroma, which will offer you a sense of brightness and energy for the day ahead. Next a woody, clear and cleansing note of eucalyptus enters your environment to offer a clean and soothing quality. Finally, to keep things warmed up I have added a middle-base note of cinnamon to keep things a little spicy.
Seeped into this gorgeous aroma are home grown and dried bergamot leaves for a cold throw of essential oil infusion and for their natural aesthetic quality.
Ingredients for Fire Embers
Essential oils of Black Pepper,, Red Thyme, Pachouli & Clary Sage for a hot throw infusion with home grown air dried thyme leaves for a cold aromatic throw.
The middle notes of Red Thyme and Clary Sage come together to sooth and help you to destress. (Clary Sage is particularly related to supporting hormones and can help with rebalancing your mood at hormonal in-balanced times). Spicy and sultry base notes of Black Pepper and Patchouli offer you a sensual aromatic hug to warm and stimulate the senses, which is particularly good at this cooler time of year, helping to warming our souls and hearts.
