March subscription box (Inner Balance & Sleep Preparation)
"It’s Spring (well almost) and I’m trying to focus on the positive 🌼.
Fresh buds are beginning to grow in the garden, daffodils and tulips are in bloom and at the moment of writing this, it feels like we need this little bit of brightness more than ever with what is going on in the world.
There are quite a few significant dates in March for us to focus us on, so for this month’s subscription box, I want to concentrate on ‘hormones’ and ‘sleep’. Both of which require balance throughout our lives. March is obviously the date for ‘Mothers’ Day’ and while celebrated in our house, I am very aware (through experience) of how this day can be much more difficult and tricky for others. So while I acknowledge this day, I want to connect this months collection to International Women’s Day (celebrated on 8th March).
The second blend is inspired by World Sleep Day that occurs on the 18th March this year. Considering “Quality Sleep, Sound Mind, Happy World” (the slogan for this years sleep day).
I have blended together seven melts which I find particularly useful when preparing for sleep. Not a guarantee for sleep itself, but one I hope that will provide rest and relaxation in preparation for your bedtime ritual."
This month’s subscription box’s first blend is inspired by International Women’s Day and reflects on our hormones and what aromas can support them while uplifting at this turbulent time.
When considering aromas for hormone support, the middle floral / herbaceous note of Clary Sage is the ultimate oil. The name Clary Sage comes from Latin (Claris) meaning clear or from the greek (Skeria) meaning hardness which refers to the hard part of the plants’ petals.
During the middle ages, it was known as Oculus Christi or the Eye of Christ and was highly esteemed for its medicinal properties. It is the go to oil for women when referring to hormonal issues but is also supportive for mens hormones too. I have blended with this oil, the top fruity notes of Lime and Grapefruit to offer you a supportive and uplifting air distillation aroma which when worked together as a blend will relax and balance the mind and body.
Inner Balance Ingredients
Filled with pure essential oils of:
Clary Sage-Clary sage oil (Salvia sclarea) is an essential oil derived from a steam distillation of the flowering plant. It's described as having a floral smell by some, but more herby by others, and is most often used to support the hormonal system (usually in women), but it can also be helpful for stress and mood swings.
Because Clary Sage oil is an oil for dispelling confusion and illusion, it can be used during prayer, meditation, contemplation, or creative work.
Lime-Emotionally, it's said to enliven a person's appetite for life and playfulness and can support a person experiencing grief, despair and apathy.
Grapefruit -The aromatic effects include support of one's own sense of self-love and approval, especially in regard to loving and honouring our bodies. It has an uplifting aroma which may help with feelings of anxiousness, bad moods, or stress, all of which impact our hormones
With the addition of individual chrysanthemum petals, (did you know Chrysanthemums generally symbolises longevity, fidelity, joy and optimism)
With World Sleep Day, on 18th March, and with all that is ever present in the world I was influenced to blend an essential oil wax melt to help us prepare for a good night’s sleep. While essential oils can’t ‘make’ you fall asleep you can use the known relaxing oils to support your bedtime and ‘sleep hygiene’ routine.
I’ve used the wonderful middle floral notes of Chamomile and Lavender essential oils for the relaxing and soothing qualities we all need when preparing to sleep or relax. I have added to these naturally sedative oils the uplifting top note aroma of bergamot. Bergamot has a positive and uplifting aroma which, when added sensitively to Lavender and Chamomile can take the fragrance produced by these lovely floral herbs to a higher aromatic level, encouraging a relaxing happiness as part of your bedtime routine.
As always if you are melting one of my essential oil melts, (especially before bedtime) do not leave a candle burning alone in a room, do not use an oil burner as a night light and always snuff out the oil burner before sleeping. I would suggest melting the wax melt while you are reading in bed or in the bathroom while bathing before bed.
