We are now moving into the enchanted days of Winter with its cold crisp air and mornings of magical, sparkling frosts. So with this in mind, my first aromatic blend for you is reminiscent of Woodland Walks when we find ourselves wrapped in hats, coats and gloves, while our breath is caught in the air as swirling patterns of cold mist.
During these walks the evergreen aromas and crunching amber leaves under our feet tells us that Father Time is bringing us close to the end of this year.
Woodlands in Folklore are often depicted as magical environments and certainly there is a magical quality in taking a woodland walk.
Often, described within the oldest of folklore stories from around the world but especially in Northern Europe, woods and forests represent places of transformation, refuge and adventure. Such as in the wonderful Enid Blyton's ‘The Enchanted Forest’,
Babot de Villeneuves Beauty & The Beast and the atmospheric Narnia of C.S Lewis’ chronicles.
So using a collection of woody essential oils, your first blend is entitled: Woodland Walk.
This Woodland Walk blends offers combined aromas of Juniper, Bay, Warming Turmeric and Cedarwood.
My second subscription box blend, encapsulates winter fires and their hypnotic embers.
Fire appears in a number of folktales and is regularly associated with the ‘Hearth’ of the home and Women. Such identification can be found in stories of Hestia the Greek Goddess or Brighid the Hearth Goddess of Ireland (who is celebrated in both Christianity and Pagan religions).
For this blend, I have used Black Pepper, Red Thyme, Patchouli and Clary Sage to reflect upon the comforting and warming qualities that fire can bring at this time of year.
